Rylee's talk about Family

I love my family because they are one of a kind. In My family it’s normal to break out in song when ever we feel like it. It’s also normal for all the rest of us to join in and harmonize. Sort of like a living musical – but don’t tell my brothers that – they hate musicals.

About a year and a half ago we all got together for a family home evening and made our family motto. My mom printed it up and it hangs in the entry way. This is what if says:
The Richhart family:
Believes in Christ
Loves and Prays
Always forgives
Trust and comforts each other
Spends time together
Laughs, jokes, and plays cards
Seeks for truth
Improves every day
Loves music
And in times of trial will fight for what’s right
We are also dang good looking.
And we’ll stick together through the zombie apocalypse and for eternity…………
And then in tiny letters at the bottom it says:
Oh just because its funny doesn’t mean Austin said it.

I love my family because they love me back. And I know that will never change.
In my family we have crazy traditions like on the first snow we run out bare foot and see who can last the longest out side. Then after all of our toes are freezing we run inside and lay down at the fire and warm our feet up.

That tradition was started by Devree and me; we used to always have competitions on who could last the longest. And then all the rest of my siblings joined in and made it a tradition.
Other traditions include: watching “A Christmas Story” and eating Chinese food one night before Christmas and carving characters on our pumpkins thanks to my Dad teaching us all his awesome pumpkin carving skills.
We use to have a cheer after family prayer at night – It was “Good Night Richharts!” but we sort of out grew that tradition.
Sometimes when we do something cool and want to do it again, as children we pronounce it a tradition! Sometimes it works and we get to do it again but sometimes my mom explains for the hundredth time that just because we do something once doesn’t make it a tradition. If so, we’d have traditions like go to the Domican Republic every summer and hike up and jump down 27 water falls.
Some of our traditions are boring, like sorting through our 24 hours kits every fall conference – a tradition that we forget to do sometimes.
We also like to put together puzzles and have my mom’s family over for dessert and card games.
We go camping, ride motorcycles, we use to travel when my mom worked for Jetblue so we’re really good at entertaining ourselves in airports, and my sisters and mom and I have performed in plays together. My dad and brothers aren’t into that.
Most importantly we try to spend time together and be there for each other. Even when we’re crying over not understanding our math and or frantically searching for cell phones, car keys or permission slips –we all try to pitch in and help.
The weirder my family gets the more I love them. And that is why I love my family.
